CROSSROADS TREATMENT CENTER  |  ELIZABETHTOWN, KY
OVERVIEW

Crossroads Treatment Ceinter is located on a 10 acres campus in Elizabethtown, KY. The facility is a ranch-style home serving up to 12 boys ages 12-18, in grades 7-12 who need special therapeutic care. The boys attend school on campus with teachers provided by the Hardin County School District.

Crossroads works with boys who typically come from backgrounds of severe abuse or neglect. The boys often have an attitude of defeat and hopelessness when they arrive. A common thread that runs through almost all of the situations is the abandonment -- either physical or emotional -- that the boys feel.

Caring staff work with the boys through regular counseling sessions to help them build self-esteem and confidence. The therapeutic component enables the boys to begin the process of overcoming their pasts and taking control of their futures.

One of the most exciting times at the Crossroads Treatment Center comes when a boy is ready to graduate from the program. In a special ceremony, a tree is planted on the campus in the boy's honor. The tree symbolizes the growth the boy has made and serves as a living and growing reminder that Crossroads is making a difference in boys' lives.

The length of stay for the boys ranges from nine months to two years. The overall goal for the program is for the boy to move from Crossroads to a stable living situation. For clients who do not reunite with family, Sunrise's continuum of care allows staff to refer clients to settings appropriate to their needs, which may include Sunrise's Family Foster Care Program or other residential programs.

In 2010 Crossroads cared for 23 boys and provided 6,982 days of care.

We invite you to take a tour of our Crossroads Treatment Center

ACTIVITIES

Sunrise's culturally diverse support system provides Crossroads clients with a variety of spiritual growth and recreational opportunities as well as assistance with material needs.

The boys at CTC have a variety of outdoor activities in which they participate on site, including basketball, softball, kickball, sand volleyball, a fitness trail, and disk golf.  CTC also has a pool table and workout room.  Off-site adventure activities include horseback riding, rock climbing, and riding a zip line.  Often on Friday nights, the boys will go to a movie.  Sometimes, they just order pizza and rent a movie to watch in the rec room.

CLINICAL FACTS

The Crossroads program includes around-the-clock counseling staff and a full-time therapist. Therapeutic services include treatment for conditions as a result of the abuse which include depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder and oppositional defiant disorder.

This program helps young men to take accountability for their behaviors, gain understanding of their choices, and develop a plan to remain safe in the community. These goals are accomplished through a combination of relapse prevention treatment and training in the skills necessary to be responsible young men. The children receive individual, group and family therapy. Many of these youth come from a background that includes alcohol and other substance abuse. For those youth the Seven Challenges program is used to help the young men to make a commitment to minimize the impact of drugs and alcohol on their lives.

The boys wrote their New Year’s resolutions. Here’s what some of them resolved for 2012:

• My News Years Resolution is to become a more dependable person
• Get back to Georgia. Act Straight and get it right. Get a job by the end of the year.
• My resolution is to pass the 10th grade and leave here before March
• My News Year resolution is to be with my Dad and help him with himself.
• Don’t argue as much as I am used to.
• I would like to change my attitude of anger and the way I think of staff and to eat more.
• Lose weight.
• My Resolution is to go home.
