Bill Smithwick joined Sunrise Children's Services in April 1997 as the agency’s president and chief executive officer. He previously held the position of assistant executive director for programs and administration for Virginia Baptist Children’s Home and Family Services.
Bill earned a doctor of ministry degree from St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore; a bachelor of arts degree and a master of business administration degree from Averett College in Danville, Va.; and a master of divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C.
He has a wealth of experience in working with programs to help troubled children, having served as chaplain of Virginia Baptist Children’s Home and Family Services prior to taking on the administrative role he had there. He also worked for a three-year period as a management consultant for Southeastern Employers Services Co. in Bristol, Tenn.
The Bowling Green, Fla., native has also held student, bi-vocational and full-time pastorates in Virginia Baptist churches.
He lives in Louisville. Bill, his wife, and their children are members of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville.

Karen Hamilton has been with Sunrise Children's Services since 1996. In her role as Chief Operating Officer, Hamilton manages the ministry’s day-to-day operations. She is responsible for the effective administration, growth and development of program services as well as providing oversight to the agency’s support systems at the central office. Hamilton also serves as chair of the Children's Alliance.
Hamilton has more than 15 years of experience in senior leadership positions. Prior to joining Sunrise, she was in charge of Human Resources for a national restaurant company headquartered in Louisville.
Outside of her role with Sunrise, Hamilton serves on the school board for her children's school in Louisville.

Beverly oversees Sunrise Children's Services’s seven residential campuses: Spring Meadows, Glen Dale, Genesis Home, Dixon Center, Baptist Youth Ranch, Morehead Center and Wilderness Camping Program.
Beverly previously served as program director for Sunrise's Spring Meadows Children's Home in Louisville. She has a doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Louisville, where she also completed her master's and undergraduate work. Prior to joining Sunrise, Beverly was coordinator for student leadership programs in U of L's Student Life department, providing training and advisement to student organizations in conflict resolution, interpersonal skills and other areas.

Barry Mitchell joined Sunrise Children's Services in 2000 as vice president for finance and administration.
Prior to joining Sunrise, Mitchell spent 16 years as chief financial officer for several mid-size healthcare companies in Louisiana and Indiana. He has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Ky., and was licensed as a certified public accountant in Louisiana.
Mitchell and his family live in Louisville, where they are members of ValleyView Church, one of the fastest-growing Southern Baptist congregations in the region. His wife, Sharon, directs Valley View's Child Development Center.

David Turner was named vice president for Support Services in February 2004. In this role, he oversees the information technology, quality assurance, performance improvement, intake services, marketing, and religious life for the agency. Prior to taking on this role, David was vice president for Child Placement Services.
David is a highly accomplished administrator and clinical social worker with 15 years' experience working in training, counseling, human resources and facility management in a variety of settings. he served as program director for Sunrise's Spring Meadows Children's Home from 1998 to 2000. Most recently, he was using his knowledge and experience to consult with health and childcare agencies. Since 1998, he has provided outpatient counseling services to clients through the Lifecare Counseling Center, a ministry of Louisville's Walnut Street Baptist Church.
David is a graduate of the University of Alabama and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, where he earned a master's degree in social work.
David and his wife have two children who were both adopted from the Ukraine. They've been members of Walnut Street Baptist Church, where David serves as a deacon, since 1994.

As Sunrise's vice president for Foster Care/Community Based Services, Elizabeth Wessels oversees the ministry's statewide family foster care program, Pregnancy and Adoption Services, Cornerstone Counseling offices and the Youth Support Center in London.
Wessels is an accomplished administrator with experience in management and clinical supervision to multi-disciplinary community-based providers. Prior to her work at Sunrise, she directed the admissions and community-based programs at Brooklawn Child and Family Services in Louisville, where she began work in 1996 as a clinical supervisor.
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Wessels also has experience as a private practitioner and as a staff therapist with Kilgore Samaritan Counseling Center in Louisville.
