Cara was 16 when she came to live with a KBHC foster family. Up to that time, all she knew was abuse. Her birth father had sexually abused her as a young child. Cara’s mother left him over the abuse, but just a few years later, Cara’s step-father started the same thing.
“I don’t think I had an idea of what love really was until I came here,” Cara said. “The only love that I knew was bad; it hurt. My new family has helped me deal with that, and slowly I’m learning to trust adults again.”
