Chris thought everyone had given up on him by the time he came to KBHC's Wilderness Camping Treatment Program in southeastern Kentucky. In and out of foster homes and other residential treatment programs since he was 8 years old, Chris had given up on himself, too.
But KBHC's counselors found reason to believe. Despite a background of abuse, neglect, drugs and other bad behaviors, there was hope for 17-year-old Chris.
Chris said he surprised himself that he managed to complete his GED and get into college. He's now settling into college life at Campbellsville University.
"KBHC is like the best place out there," he said. "They mean it when they say they're going to help you overcome things in the past. They taught me to believe in myself."
