Robert's story started off similar to that of other teens who come to Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children. Nine months earlier, Robert, 15, and his older sister spent their evenings trying to avoid their step-father's abuse. For Robert, the abuse was physical. For his sister, it was sexual.
Tired, angry and hoping for justice, Robert eventually called authorities. KBHC became a place of refuge for Robert and his sister, who came to one of the agency's foster homes.
Part of the care KBHC's foster families provide is spiritual, making sure these abused and neglected children hear the gospel and learn of redemption through Jesus. Robert came to know the life-changing power of Jesus Christ through KBHC's ministry. Soon afterward, he surrendered to the ministry and at age 15 delivered his first sermon.
"When you evaluate your life from an eternal perspective, you will find your life and your goals changing," Robert told the crowd of 100 who gathered to hear him preach at a church in Western Kentucky. "God has given each of us a purpose, and we can trust Him to guide us."
