PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES
PROGRAM OVERVIEW

For boys ages 6-18 with severe emotional and behavioral problems, Sunrise Children's Services offers three highly structured Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF's), open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Located on the Woodlawn Campus in Danville, Ky., they are designed to meet the needs of children who need more long-term, comprehensive care, but who do not require hospitalization. In this setting, children can continue their schooling at our on-campus classroom, while benefiting from:

  • A 24-hour, on-call clinician
  • On-site psychiatric and nursing services and medication monitoring
  • Individual, family and group therapy
  • Nutritional assessments
  • Therapeutic recreational activities
  • Psycho-Educational groups covering an array of skills/behaviors
  • Specialized therapy for children with sexual behavior problems

Client successes lead to more referrals

Matthew Roberts, a therapist at Woodlawn, recounts a recent conversation with a client and the social worker who originally placed him at the PRTF:

A past client, "Matthew," called me on Friday. Coincidentally, I received an email from his social worker that same day referring another child to our unit. The social worker wrote in his email, "I wanted to let you know that Matthew's father feels Woodlawn helped him greatly and also wanted to know if you thought your facility could possibly offer services to this other young man."

Matthew told me that things were going well. He is making more friends and enjoying his school. The transition into school went well. He told me that he's receiving multiple therapeutic services that he enjoys. In addition, his mother, who has been highly inconsistent in his life, is becoming more involved and he's enjoying this.
