November 18 is National Adoption Day!
November is National Adoption Month. The Saturday before Thanksgiving is National Adoption Day, a day set aside to raise awareness for children and youth in foster care who are waiting for permanent families. This is the perfect time to highlight our own Foster Care Program!
Sunrise Foster Care is made up of a tremendous staff of dedicated, caring people. They have developed a Christ-centered ministry that helps shine a bright light of hope and healing to foster kids and families across the state. Sunrise offers therapeutic foster care, respite care, foster-to-adopt, and most recently has added the important and necessary service of performing Adoption Home Studies. In fact, our new home study business line has already celebrated its first adoption!
But there are still others waiting for a home. The need is great. And the time is critical. As of October, there were 8,598 kids in Kentucky alone placed in out of home care, waiting for their forever families. Average age of children entering foster care is just over six-years-old. Average age of children currently in foster care is just under ten-years-old. We can’t wait until next year, or even next month. We must act now. We must do what we can to get these children out of institutions and into homes.
Sunrise Children’s Services is committed to surrounding you with the support and training you need, every step of the way. If you believe God is leading you to join us in the foster care or adoption journey, go to sunrise.org/foster-care. Begin that journey today, during this year’s National Adoption Month!
