Sunrise utilizes matching gifts, sets $40,000 Giving Tuesday goal for 2018 campaign

Sunrise Children’s Serviceshas joined Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving on Nov. 27 that utilizes the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity worldwide.

Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This kicks off the holiday giving season and inspires people to collaborate in improving their local communities and giving back in impactful ways to causes they support.

“We can accomplish more together on this day for Kentucky’s kids than we can doing it alone. This is a day of compassion that anyone and everyone can participate in and make a difference through charitable causes in their communities,” said Melissa Bailey, marketing director of Sunrise Children’s Services. “Last year, Sunrise raised nearly $4,000 for Sunrise on Giving Tuesday. This year’s God-sized goal is $40,000. But already, we’ve acquired $20,000 in matching donations so that every donation given on Nov. 27, up to $20,000, will be doubled to make a positive impact on the more than 1,330 individuals we serve at Sunrise today.”

Those who are interested in donating to Sunrise’s Giving Tuesday campaign should visit sunrise.org/GivingTuesday. Sunrise supporters are also encouraged totake pictures of themselves with a small sign that shares why they are supporting Sunrise with the words #UNselfie and #ShineSunrise on it.

92Y − a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around its core values of community service and giving back – conceptualized Giving Tuesday as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving. In 2016, the fifth year of Giving Tuesday, millions of people in 98 countries came together to give back and support the causes they believe in. More than $177 million was raised online to benefit a tremendously broad range of organizations, and much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and acts of kindness.
